A family in Aldine, Texas, is fighting to keep its land after the local school district floated the idea of using eminent domain to seize the property and use it for a parking lot next to the school's football stadium.
According to KHOU 11, Travis Upchurch's family has lived on the land for five generations, and they don't intend to let it go without a fight.
"We're trying to figure out a way for our dad to stay in his home, which is his wish, that hasn't changed. So we're all looking forward to having this resolved in a way that we can go back to our normal lives. My dad's health has gone downhill," Tara Upchurch told KHOU.
The community is reportedly backing the Upchurch family, and people have attended board meetings to express their opposition to the school's plans.
The board is expected to vote Thursday on whether to allow the district to use eminent domain to take the land. Family members are hoping there's a change of heart on the part of the board.
