An East Texas high school football coach is facing possible suspension after it was discovered that he made video recordings during scouting visits in an attempt to steal opponents' signals.
According to Dave Campbell's Texas Football, Palestine Westwood coach Richard Bishop has been recommended for suspension for the remainder of the season following a District 9-3A Division I District Executive Committee recommendation on Monday regarding allegations that he orchestrated and executed a plan to film opponents signals while scouting.
The DEC ruled that the violations were "intentional, serious and egregious decisions' that disregarded the rules of fair play, recommending that Bishop be suspended for the entire regular season and any post-season play. The DEC also recommended that Westwood football forfeit all district games played during the 2024 season, including those game that remain to be played.
Dave Campbell's Texas Football reported this week that Palestine Westwood intends to appeal the DEC's ruling to the UIL State Executive Committee.
Palestine Westwood is currently undefeated and ranked No. 6 in the most recent DCTF state rankings.
