President Donald Trump is reportedly making plans to create a Presidential Commission on College Sports with intention of tapping former Alabama coach Nick Saban and Texas billionaire Cody Campbell to lead the effort.
According to Yahoo Sports, details of the commission are mostly being kept private, but the group is expected to feature other college sports stakeholders, business people, coaches and administrators.
The commission is expected to examine a variety of issues currently facing college sports, including the frequency of player movement in the transfer portal, the unregulated booster compensation paid to athletes, the debate of college athlete employment, preserving the Olympic sport structure, the application of Title IX to school revenue-share payments and, even, conference membership makeup and conference television contracts.
Some speculate that Trump will establish the commission through an executive order.
Trump's involvement in college athletics is not unexpected. Last month, 100 college sports leaders traveled to Washington to lobby congress, and they were informed of the president's interest in taking action in the realm of college sports.
