U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) this week introduced legislation that reinforces and codifies President Trump’s Executive Order that prohibits biological boys from participating in girls’ sports.
The Defend Girls Athletics Act would allow the Trump administration to fully enforce the order by cutting funding for any schools that don't comply with the president's executive order.
U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) this week introduced legislation that reinforces and codifies President Trump’s Executive Order that prohibits biological boys from participating in girls’ sports.Â
The Defend Girls Athletics Act would allow the Trump administration to fully enforce the order by cutting funding for any schools that don't comply with the president's executive order.Â
Although the NCAA has indicated it will cooperate with the executive order, the legislation ensures that rogue schools or defiant institutions are held accountable at both the K-12 and collegiate levels.
"Biological males are depriving female athletes of their athletic achievements. According to the United Nation’s 2024 study titled 'Violence against women and girls in sports,' biological males have won 890 medals in 29 different women’s sports," states a press release for the bill. "The study also estimated that over 600 female athletes have lost accolades because of male athletes participating in their sport."Â
The president's executive order has proved difficult to enforce, as lawsuits filed by states who don't wish to comply have been successful at stopping the administration from blocking funds to schools in their state.Â
The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Education on Wednesday after California informed the DOE that it would not comply with the administration’s demands to keep men out of women’s sports.Â
