A youth basketball coach in Virginia has been banned from all future events following a verbal dispute with a game official that turned physical during a basketball tournament in Henrico County.

Tournament organizers with Teammate Basketball told 8News that the argument began as verbal back and forth between the coach and the official but unfortunately turned physical.

“Our organization, along with Henrico Sports & Events Authority, hold high standards of conduct and behavior from our participants, coaches and spectators,” tournament organizers said. “Those involved in the altercation, including the officials, were permanently removed from the event.”

The coach involved is banned from all future events hosted by our organization.

8News reported that Teammate Basketball had four uniformed officers on-site at the tournament.

“Our priority is creating and maintaining a safe environment for travel basketball organizations,” tournament organizers said. “We had 156 teams participating in the event, and while one team fell short of the standard, the other 155 had a great event experience inside one of the country’s best indoor facilities.”
