The South Carolina High School League has changed its transfer rules to allow senior athletes a first-time transfer to another high school without being penalized.
According to the Index Journal, seniors will be required to transfer on or before the start of the first practice date of the season in which the transfer occurs, and they must meet all threshold transfer eligibility requirements.
Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, athletes were allowed to make one penalty-free transfer to a school outside of their zone in their first six semesters, which included the freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.
Before the rule change, first-time transfers were supposed to miss three games, and in the case of second-time transfer, seniors were supposed to miss the entire postseason.
The SCHSL has all changed the rules governing who transfer as part of a family's move to a new attendance zone. Those athletes will not face penalties now, and such a case will not count as a one-time transfer.
