The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is proceeding with plans to hold a spring sports season.
This week MIAA’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to begin its spring season on May 4, and extend the duration through June 27, according to the Greenfield Recorder. That amounts to extending the season by a week.
MIAA has shifted its season to follow the school calendar set forth by Governor Charlie Baker’s office. Prior to the vote, the spring season was expected to start April 27.
The extension keeps alive hopes for a postseason, as the MIAA’s Tournament Management Committee has previously suggested that if the season were to end on June 20, tournament play wouldn’t be possible.
The new dates were made under the assumption that students will be returning to schools on May 4. If school is delayed any later than that, MIAA’s board said there would be no postseason.
