A former Pennsylvania youth basketball coach has turned himself in to face child sex charges involving a girl he met through a youth basketball league.
Jamie Monohan, 40, has been charged with unlawful contact with a minor and sending explicit materials to a minor. Monohan was a former employee of Riverfront Sports and a former coach with NEPA Elite basketball club.
According to court documents obtained by The Citizen’s Voice, the messages began in November.
The investigation began Dec. 8 when detectives were asked to assist an area high school resource officer with an incident involving Monohan. The victim said she knew Monohan from playing AAU basketball.
In the messages, Monohan sent inappropriate pictures and acknowledged that what he was doing could get him in trouble.
After receiving the photos and lewd texts, the victim stopped all contact with Monohan.
Monohan was released on $50,000 bail after a hearing on Wednesday and is due back in court next week. He faces two felony counts of disseminating explicit sexual material to a minor and one felony count of unlawful contact with a minor.
