A Providence, R.I., rec director has been fired from his new position and charged this week by police with assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

According to WPRI, Manuel Nunez, 43, was charged with three counts of molestation of a child under 14 years of age.

Nunez was hired as the director of the John Rollins Recreation Center just last week and was promptly terminated yesterday.

Police said Nunez assaulted the girl at a privately owned basketball court where he had set up a youth basketball league, which was separate from his new job at the rec center.

On March 31, a woman reported to police that her 13-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted on several occasions by Nunez. The girl was a participant in the basketball league, according to police.

Nunez is being held without bail following an arraignment on Tuesday.
