A Sherwood, Ore., man was arrested last week after being accused of embezzling $700,000 from a local youth baseball organization.
Terrence Haimoto, 52, was indicted by a grand jury in Washington County on Tuesday on various charges related to the alleged embezzlement.
According to KOIN, Haimoto had been the treasurer of the Sherwood Junior Baseball Organization when a newly appointed president noticed several financial inconsistencies.
The president hired a third-part firm to conduct an audit and forwarded the results to detectives, which prompted an investigation into the matter.
KOIN reported that detectives discovered questionable money transfers dating back to 2017, including instances where money was moved from the Sherwood JBO into Haimoto’s own accounts and later spent at casinos in Washington and Oregon.
After conducting their investigation, detectives estimated that Haimoto embezzled over $700,000 since 2017.
Haimoto has been charged with three counts of first-degree theft and seven counts of first-degree aggravated theft and is currently lodged at the Washington County Jail.
