Before Angel Suggs was the director of athletics and vice president at Florida A&M, she worked as the president and CEO of the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF). Now, Suggs has been charged with grand theft, scheme to defraud and falsifying travel vouchers to the tune of $24,000 from her previous employer, FSF.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Suggs used her work credit card to pay for personal expenses, including games at the casino on business trips, wire transfers and cash withdrawals. She later falsified travel vouchers to claim those charges were for business meals.

Suggs turned herself in to police at the Leon County Jail yesterday, and she was released later in the day on a $13,500 bond.
Suggs’ former employer, FSF, is a nonprofit organization that operates under the Florida Department of Commerce. The organization supports Florida’s sports industry.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released a statement saying, “The investigation began in November 2024 after FDLE received a criminal referral from the Florida Department of Commerce’s Inspector General with an audit of Suggs’ business credit card purchases and corresponding travel reimbursements.”
Suggs told the Tallahassee Democrat that some of those ‘unauthorized charges’ were business meals and others were “accidentally charged to the business card. She failed to fully repay (the foundation) for her personal expenditures.”
Timothy Beard, interim president of FAMU released a statement regarding the charges. “While the matter is unrelated to her duties as an employee at FAMU, we are monitoring the situation and will respond in the future as appropriate.”
At this time, Suggs remains employed at FAMU.
