Student-Athlete Sues University of Kentucky Over Injury During Stunt Tryouts

A University of Kentucky student-athlete has sued the school, along with three coaches, alleging negligence after she was injured while trying out for the stunt team. 

According to Fox 56, Lilly Rose Zidek claims she was dropped by an “inexperienced” walk-on and hit her head on the court while trying. She also alleges that coaches failed to proved proper supervision and safe conditions .

Zidek says the fall left her permanently injured when her shoulder hit the mat when when she fell and her head struck the basketball court. 

Head coach Blair Bergmann, assistant coach Catherine Ruslavage, and assistant coach Vanessa Copeland were named in the lawsuit alongside the University of Kentucky. 

According to Fox 56, the lawsuit alleges the following complaints: 

  • Allowing inexperienced walk-ons to participate in advanced stunts without verifying their skill
  • Positioning Plaintiff’s group in an unsafe location, partially off the mat
  • Failing to provide organization to the tryouts to ensure the safety of the student athletes
  • Failing to follow standard safety policies, regulations, and/or guidelines for practice and tryouts
