The Voyles family has filed a lawsuit against the Jackson (Miss.) Academy and its head of school, Edward Wettach, after their son was unenrolled due to what they allege is whistleblower retaliation.

According to WLBT 3, Jason Voyles created a file “identifying several student-athletes from other schools who were believed to be recruited for the Jackson Academy sports teams, which goes against the rules set by the Mid-South Association of Independent Schools.” Voyles then shared this document with several parents.

Shortly after Voyles called attention to the illegal athletic recruitment practices, he and his family were called into a meeting with Wettach, informing them that their son would be unenrolled from Jackson Academy due to “negativity” created by the document.

Voyles’ investigation into the illegal recruitment practices found that the Jackson Academy had actively recruited 11 student-athletes from the Jackson metro area.

In the newly filed lawsuit, the Voyles argue that the Jackson Academy “breached its enrollment contract by terminating [their son’s] education without a valid reason.” The family is seeking reimbursement for 11 years of tuition and damages.

C.V. Voyles was a Jackson Academy sophomore and student-athlete on the baseball team, who has been enrolled at Jackson Academy since 2014.

The Jackson Academy has not released a statement on the lawsuit at this time.
