The Hilliard (Ohio) Police Department is conducting an investigation after the treasurer for the Hilliard Bradley High School Athletic Boosters reported more than $28,000 missing over a three-year period.
According to ABC 6, group treasurer Heather Schoenfeldt contacted police on Dec. 10 to report the suspected theft. Schoenfeldt said she discovered discrepancies while reviewing concession sales records and bank statements from various athletic events.
The investigation revealed a pattern of missing deposits dating back to 2022. In total, Schoenfeldt documented a loss of $28,142.95.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
ABC 6 released the following findings from the investigation:
- Discovery: The treasurer noticed that funds from specific events were not being fully deposited into the boosters' bank account.
- Timeline: The discrepancies span three years, beginning in 2022 and continuing through 2025.
- Restitution Offer: After being confronted by booster leadership, an unnamed individual reportedly offered to pay back $10,000. Officials noted the specific amount offered was "suspicious" given the total deficit.
Under Ohio law, a theft of $28,142.95 would typically be classified as Grand Theft, which is a fourth-degree felony.
Because the amount exceeds $7,500 but is less than $150,000, anyone convicted of this offense would face the following statutory penalties:
- Prison Time: 6 to 18 months in a state correctional institution.
- Fines: Financial penalties up to $5,000.
- Restitution: The court would likely order the defendant to pay back the full amount ($28,142.95) to the Hilliard Bradley High School Athletic Boosters.
