Former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has lost a legal dispute over receiving the remaining $30 million of his contract after he was fired in 2021.
An independent arbiter ruled Monday that the Jaguars were able to fire Meyer with cause and would not have to pay him more than $30 million for the final four years of his contract, which he would have been due had the arbiter ruled the Jaguars fired Meyer without cause.
The Jaguars fired Meyer on Dec. 6, 2021, ending his tenure with the team, during which he went 2-11.
In releasing Meyer, the Jaguars cited multiple off-field incidents, as well as kicker Josh Lambo's allegation that Meyer kicked him in the leg while he was stretching in warmups before a practice during the week of the final preseason game.
Lambo filed a lawsuit against Meyer and the Jaguars in May 2022, alleging that Meyer created a hostile work environment and the team did nothing to stop it. Lambo voluntarily released all claims against the Jaguars, but he case against Meyer is still pending.
Meyer, 61, is currently working as a college football analyst at Fox Sports and was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in December.
