Former Pop Warner Official Guilty of Six-Figure Fraud

The former regional head of a Langhorne-based youth football organization pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to defrauding the organization of hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey.

David Marshall, 57, of Jackson, N.J., was regional director of the Eastern Region of Pop Warner from 2006 until 2011, court documents say, making him the gatekeeper for that region's bank accounts.

According to the documents, Marshall abused that power by transferring money from the organization's bank account to his own, making personal purchases with the organization's credit card, and writing checks from the organization's bank accounts to pay personal expenses, including college tuition.

The documents do not say how much was stolen.

Marshall faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

As part of his plea deal, he agreed to make restitution to the organization, prosecutors said. The amount will be determined at his sentencing hearing on June 25.

Pop Warner executive director Jon Butler said in a statement that Monday was "a sad day for our organization," but that Marshall's behavior will not "overshadow the work of thousands of honest, selfless volunteers around the country."

The Eastern Region staff, he added, has adopted new accounting policies to protect against similar activities.
