The Women’s Super League and CBS Sports have signed an exclusive, four-year broadcasting deal to bring women’s soccer to the U.S. audience through 2030.
According to The Guardian, the 24-team league will have 183 matches per season streamed on Paramount+ — the most ever available — and one match per week will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network, marking a massive media milestone for women’s soccer.
CBS Sports also partners with the NWSL and the Women’s Champions League. Prior to the new deal, ESPN was the US rights holder for WSL matches, but CBS Sports briefly partnered with the WSL in 2023.
“We are excited to welcome CBS Sports back to the Barclays WSL. Their breadth of women’s football rights demonstrates their commitment to the game as does their delivery of content alongside live matches,” said WSL Football’s chief revenue officer Zarah Al-Kudcy. “And with the likes of former Arsenal player Jen Beattie already on their talent roster, we know our league’s storytelling is in good hands.”
This broadcast deal represents a massive increase in the WSL’s valuation, as well as a record-high broadcast contract value for a U.S. deal.
Adding WSL to American media parallels a growing trend in the country: the rising popularity of women’s sports.
To satisfy a growing audience, CBS Sports coverage of WSL will also include social media promotion, a guaranteed spot on the network’s soccer studio program ‘Attacking Third,’ and coverage on network podcasts, newsletters and print opportunities.
CBS Sports and WSL’s broadcast deal further cements CBS Sports and Paramount+ as a home for soccer in the U.S.
