Facility Friday: VCU Athletes Village, Gift Announcements and More

Virginia Commonwealth University is reportedly set to secure a 22-acre plot of land on which it will build a portion of its planned Athletics Village. The complex will include a new shared ballpark with the Flying Squirrels minor league baseball team, an indoor/outdoor tennis center and more. — Richmond.com

The University of Illinois announced a $250,000 anonymous gift for its Ubben Basketball Complex. The project will add 40,000 square feet to the existing building, and renovate other areas. Planned upgrades include new coaches’ offices, a grand entry lobby, two new half-courts for both the men’s and women’s practice space, a new strength and conditioning addition, expanded locker room and player lounge space and a state-of-the-art sports medicine area. — FightingIllini.com

Illinois State University announced that it had received a $2 million donation — one of the largest cash commitments in school history — from anonymous donors to support its Indoor Practice Facility. Details of the project included updated fundraising numbers and plans will be revealed at a later date. — GoRedbirds.com 

The University of Missouri announced a $1.4 million anonymous gift to support the men’s basketball and football programs. A portion of the gift will be allocated to the men’s basketball team’s Excellence Society, while the remainder will go to support the school’s planned indoor football practice facility. — MUTigers.com 

Hamilton College in New York is set to break ground on a new boathouse for its men’s and women’s rowing programs. The facility will include an expanded boat storage and operations area, a team meeting room, coaches’ offices and restroom facilities. — Rome Sentinel
