Some area high school athletic departments have received monetary boosts thanks to Moses Ford in St. Albans and the Ford Motor Company.

The dealership's "Drive For Your School" program raises money for high school athletics by conducting test drives of various makes and models of Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

Moses Ford Fleet Manager Mike Cobb spearheads the program, which is conducted in partnership with the Ford Motor Co.

Nitro High School recently conducted a Drive For Your School fundraiser. Afterwards, Cobb presented a check for $3,500 to Nitro High School Athletic Director Steve Pritchard, who accepted the money on behalf of the NHS athletic program.

High schools must sign up for the program. Cobb typically takes one of each model of Ford or Lincoln to the school or other site, where visitors take test drives. For each valid test drive, the Ford Motor Company donates $20 to the school's athletic department.

"All the money, from each vehicle they drive, goes to the athletic department," Cobb said.

So far, Cobb has conducted Drive For Your School fundraisers at Nitro High, St. Albans High, George Washington High and South Charleston High.

"They go real well. It's good for sports and good for the community," Cobb said.
