Facilities of Merit 2016: Bulldog Strength and Conditioning Center – Bryant University
Bulldog Strength and Conditioning Center – Bryant UniversitySmithfield, RI 2016
Year in Showcase: 2016
In the summer of 2007, Bryant University announced the transition to Division I athletics and joined the Northeast Conference, becoming a full member in 2012. Key to the success of Bryant’s 22 teams and more than 550 student-athletes is its strength and conditioning program. The new Bulldog Strength and Conditioning Center provides varsity athletes with a state-of-the-art weight training environment designed both to prepare athletes for top-level competition and attract the best new talent.
The building more than doubles Bryant’s previous resources and is large enough for entire teams to work out in one rotation — fostering teamwork and camaraderie while allowing student-athletes to use their time efficiently. The building includes 24 lifting platforms, selectorized weight and cardio machines, medicine ball walls, a 160-foot indoor turf sprint area and additional workout areas. Support spaces include a nutrition station, cubby rooms, changing rooms, restrooms, coaches’ offices and a conference room.
The glass and steel jewel-box pavilion is featured prominently at the entrance to the football stadium. The Bulldog Strength and Conditioning Center also hosts VIP and alumni events during football games, with a tented terrace on the north side looking out onto the field. When viewed by thousands of spectators from their stadium seating, the building lends a fresh and contemporary image to the campus that unfolds in the distance beyond.
