In an effort to attract top recruits, boost revenue and provide fans with a more modern experience, South Dakota State University decided to replace its 51-year-old stadium with a new 19,100-seat stadium. The result was Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, a facility that exudes a major-university aura. Complete with modern amenities, premium seating options and interior social spaces, the new stadium welcomes fans and boosters to an exciting new era of comfort.

The building was designed to reflect the notion of “where earth meets sky.” Exterior materials were selected to be purposefully heavy and darker at the base, turning lighter and airy as they ascend the building facade. The theme continues in interior gathering spaces, where earthy finish materials, like stone and reclaimed wood, combine with natural light to evoke a prairie-sky feeling. Glazing surrounds Club 71 and Coughlin-Alumni Lounge, offering sweeping views of campus. Club 71 generates consistent revenue by remaining open for gatherings year-round.

Built on the site of its predecessor, the new Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium takes advantage of existing utilities and infrastructure, fitting into the established athletic district. By building for the university’s current needs and future possibilities, the stadium will benefit stakeholders for years to come.
