Doak Campbell Stadium Renovation and Addition, Florida State University

Tallahassee, FL
Construction Cost: $ 34.5 Million
Area / Square Feet: 108,157 SF
Occupancy Date: September 2015

Doak Campbell Stadium was renovated to enrich the gameday experience for fans and ultimately help increase attendance for the Seminoles. The addition of a Champions Club, an air-conditioned space featuring 6,000 club seats, transformed the previously open seating bowl. When not serving patrons on gameday, the club is booked for weddings, conferences, seminars and other events, resulting in the possibility of year-round revenue generation.

The additions required improvements to existing vertical circulation systems. A pair of contemporary glass towers now flank the southside entrance, framing the famed “Unconquered” monument. The towers contain three high-speed elevators and a scissor stair. A tensile canopy shading the open terrace is supported by beams finished in the iconic FSU spear tip and illuminated by multicolored LED lights. In addition, the design/build team renovated 28 existing restrooms and repaired the bowl structural deck. Wayfinding signage was updated to reflect the new layout.

Design and construction were fast-tracked to meet a rigorous, nine-month schedule in order to deliver the project prior to the start of the 2016 football season. Additional challenges were posed by working inside an existing stadium occupied by academic staff and a University Center restaurant.
