The E.L. Wiegand Fitness Center reflects innovative design, modern trends and student needs. The highlight of the facility is the unique three-story “stadium stairway” that mimics the experience of running up the steep stairs in a stadium. The stadium stairs lead from the first-floor entry to the fourth floor, where they connect to a 200-meter, 1/8-mile elevated running track. The track wraps around a three-court basketball gymnasium as well as the expansive cardio and strength training spaces.

The state-of-the-art building helps the university compete for top students across the United States and the world. The fitness center features one of the largest functional training spaces in the country, with the latest in CrossFit training equipment, stationary fitness equipment, weightlifting and other strength training equipment, as well as flexible, multi-use spaces for yoga, Pilates, Zumba, boxing and aerobics. The center also hosts office areas for fitness leaders and staff plus standard amenities including men’s, women’s and gender-neutral lockers and shower rooms.

The university wanted the facility to serve a singular purpose — to provide training, fitness and wellness offerings to students, faculty and staff. This singular focus means the facility does not have gathering or study areas, there is no food service, and there are only 15 chairs in the building.
