The Lovett School Baseball/Softball Complex

Atlanta, Ga.
Construction Cost: $5.8 million
Occupancy Date: June 2010

The Lovett School's athletics program is an essential facet of the school's philosophy, which seeks to develop the whole child. From movement education in early-childhood programming through competitive varsity sports, students gain broad exposure to the importance of physical activity.

Due to an increasing school population, Lovett needed to expand and improve its athletic facilities. Amenities of the Baseball/Softball Complex include a 400-seat, grandstand-style softball stadium and a 900-seat, grandstand-style baseball stadium clustered to create a central pedestrian plaza with access to both stadiums. Shared concessions stands and public restrooms are key elements of this space. The complex also includes an 8,000-square-foot facility with coaches' offices, umpire and team locker areas, indoor batting cages and ample equipment storage spaces.

The complex has notable sustainable elements, including a 54,000-gallon cistern that stores collected rainwater used for field irrigation.
