Bainbridge College, a two-year public institution opened in 1973, is among the fastest-growing colleges in Georgia. A new Student Wellness Center (SWC) was designed to meet the demands of the increasing student population and enhance a student recreation experience that hadn’t changed significantly in four decades.

The building plan was carefully organized to support the multi-functionality of the spaces. All activity spaces are controlled access, while the south entry lobby and gymnasium are controlled separately for special events. Spaces are grouped according to function: one wing contains the recreation components of the fitness center, game room and locker rooms; the other contains the student center dining room, bookstore, classrooms, computer lab and offices. The 1,600-seat gymnasium is centrally located off the south lobby, with easy access to the kitchen, storage and loading dock to support convocations and other events.

Sited adjacent to the existing Student Center, the two-level facility establishes a new campus context and blends with the college’s style and environment by incorporating similar building materials. The largest building on campus, the SWC represents a one-stop shop for students, faculty and visitors. It provides an iconic look for campus, with the ability to accommodate future modifications and additions.
