El Camino College’s new pool and classroom complex includes two fully equipped, spectator-friendly indoor pools: a 35-meter-by-25-yard competition rim-flow pool and an indoor 4,820-square-foot adaptive PE pool with a peninsula. This contemporary two-story building supports instructional use and athletic competition for the El Camino College Warriors’ swimming, diving and water polo teams.
The 35-meter competition pool has two 1-meter diving boards and one 3-meter board, as well as a state-of-the-art timing system. A rim-flow gutter system was built into the competition pool, and skimmers were installed at the wellness pool, which was designed for adaptive classes. The rest of the complex includes five classrooms, two fitness multipurpose rooms, an adapted PE laboratory/classroom, a modern fitness center and weight training room, student locker rooms and aquatics team rooms, the Division of Health Sciences and Athletics office, faculty offices and other essential support spaces.
Additionally, all windows in the building are energy-efficient, providing natural lighting throughout the whole facility. Drought-tolerant landscaping was planted around the complex, requiring minimal irrigation, and reclaimed water is used in landscaped areas.
