David Braley Vaughan Metropolitan Centre of Community

Vaughan, Ont.
Construction Cost: $35 million
Area / Square Feet: 105,000
Occupancy Date: April 2022

MJMA worked with the YMCA of Greater Toronto, the Vaughan Public Library and the City of Vaughan on the interior fit-out of an office tower podium to ensure optimal integration and function of new community and recreation programs within the site.

The aquatics hall is comprised of a fully accessible four-lane, 25-meter lap pool and a therapeutic pool with a movable floor. Additional recreational spaces include a fitness area and divisible gym, a conditioning area, a youth zone, and fitness studios that open onto a public green roof terrace. On the ground floor, a YMCA Childcare Centre hosts up to 100 kids with five child-minding rooms and an outdoor courtyard.

The tenant fit-out is pursuing LEED Platinum certification. Sustainability features include high-efficiency, high-performance mechanical and electrical systems that draw down energy use and create exceptional interior air quality, as well as details such as the heavy timber structural elements and wood decking in the gym and aquatics hall.
