The Georgina Multi-Use Recreation Complex is shaped by three distinct pavilions that slope toward a common hall and provide views and access to the aquatics, library and gymnasium programs. The aquatics center pavilion is a showpiece facility that includes three pool tanks served by two universal changing room suites. The 6-lane, 25-meter pool, leisure pool and therapy pool provide a range of aquatic experiences — from play and relaxation to learning and training. Each pool tank incorporates an accessible ramp entry that enables everyone to enjoy a dignified entry. The leisure pool is zoned to allow for a range of teaching depths: shallow at the entry steps to a 4-foot depth at the deeper end. A lower band of glazing allows light, but blinds allow for glare control. The entry to the aquatics center begins at the universal changing rooms, where users can see the pool and have easy access to a range of change cubicles and barrier-free showers. The overall result is a progressive and beautiful example of community aquatic design.
