In 2001, Johnstown residents voted in favor of a new tax to fund a future recreation center, and in 2020, that dream was realized. The project is owned by the city but operated by the YMCA of Northern Colorado. Members of the Johnstown Community YMCA will benefit from exciting opportunities to participate in fitness and wellness programs, sports programs, camps and youth programs, enrichment programs and special events.

Among all the wonderful features of this building, it is the aquatic experience that stands out. The natatorium houses both a competition lap pool and a warm-water leisure pool with a wide range of fun features. The exterior has operable glass walls to open the natatorium to the outdoors, where a splashpad rounds out the aquatic experience.

When contemplating the impact this facility will have on the residents of Johnstown, designers deemed it most important that the building be a true center of the community, with activity that appeals to all interests and a design that reflects the heritage of the town, but with an eye toward the future — a vibrant recreational complex. The building’s form, and warm materials of brick and sandstone complement Johnstown’s existing downtown buildings, while ample windows will glow with activity from morning to evening.
