Jacksonville State University dedicated its state-of-the-art Recreation and Fitness Center in January 2018. The building is a game-changer for the university, both as a recruitment tool for future students and as a

hub of campus life for current students.

The 101,000-square-foot facility has a glass exterior, four gymnasiums, a weight and fitness area, a wellness center, an elevated walking track, racquetball courts, an indoor pool with four lap lanes and a shallow outdoor pool, a 42-foot climbing wall, group exercise studios and locker rooms, as well as a lounge area where students can congregate between classes.

The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget amid extraordinarily challenging circumstances, including a devastating EF3 tornado that struck the campus during construction, severely damaging 23 buildings and affecting 50 more.
