Target markets

Other indoor pools in Sioux Falls are designed for one or two user groups, such as swim team practice on college campuses or lap swimming at fitness centers. Serving the needs of a 1.7 million regional population, Midco Indoor Aquatic Center is designed to offer swimming lessons for infants, a therapy pool for veterans hospitalized in a nearby federal medical center, underwater bicycles for those who seek a fitness component, meeting rooms for the public, and a 50-meter bulkhead-flexible pool for both public activities and private swim teams.

Designed for diversity

A primary consideration was the variety of user groups. To meet a full range of needs as the city’s first indoor swimming facility, the aquatic center features multiple pools, including a zero-entry pool for infants and toddlers; a recreation pool with lap lanes, a basketball hoop and slides, and a lazy river. All pools are accessible with ADA chairlifts and a wheelchair ramp.

‘Fun at every corner’

The theme is a simple one: fun at every corner, and enough light and views to showcase the park atmosphere. A large glass wall brings natural sunlight into the pool area and creates a stunning visual effect for swimmers looking out during winter’s storms. A fireplace in the lobby offers a place to sit and view the park’s sledding hill, while a spectator mezzanine overlooks the pool and offers views of volleyball courts and the park’s playground.
