The Alienware Purdue Gaming Lab exemplifies RecWell’s values serving a niche of Purdue University students by converting two underutilized courts into a thriving space, while furthering education in gaming and wellbeing topics. Made possible through internal and external partnerships, the APGL has attracted over 5,000 unique users to the facility. It has been an attractive reservation site for academic units, residence halls, student organizations and outside entities. More impressively, the APGL has an established palette of gaming events and competitions that attract hundreds of users every week. The APGL will also be hosting instructional camps that will feature game-specific, ergonomic and healthy lifestyle training for all ages.
To help create a world-class gaming lounge, the APGL is centered around two key design features: creating an immersive environment that fosters campus community and engagement, and providing students with access to an elite cutting-edge portfolio of gaming technology from Alienware.
The lounge is designed to foster inclusivity and promotes engagement of gamers at all levels — from casual gameplay in the open gaming or console gaming areas, to premier training and gameday competition for RecWell’s competitive teams in the varsity training room. Additionally, a broadcast studio offers even more opportunities for media engagement, including shout casting, broadcasting and podcasting. The viewing area immerses spectators in the action with comfortable, stadium seating and live broadcasts via 75-inch display monitors.
