The result of a partnership between the University of Oregon and a nonprofit arena development entity, Matthew Knight Arena was envisioned as a “theater for basketball.” With a comprehensive branding and graphics program, the facility also serves as a marketing environment for Oregon Athletics.

The intimate, loud seating bowl is similar to McArthur Court, maintaining an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams. Player amenities are located on the east side of the event level, while private donor clubs and suites are located on the north side. The university opted for a small number of highly priced suites to achieve revenue goals while preserving the effectiveness of the seating bowl.

Douglas fir, a species indigenous to Oregon, was used in the majority of interior spaces, including on the shroud wall of the public concourses and in paneling, millwork and doors throughout the private clubs and team spaces. The university’s green and yellow colors are incorporated into wayfinding signage and graphics, glass accent tiles, paints and furniture. Throughout the building, brand elements such as color, environmental graphics, exhibits and signage reflect the school’s and region’s cultural, social and athletic heritage.
