The Redmond Senior & Community Center is a civic hub designed to enhance the health, wellbeing and social life for all community members. Located on the former Senior Center site, the new facility completes the Redmond Municipal Campus, extending the Civic Commons to the Sammamish River Trail. Weaving together the urban and natural context, it offers the community gathering, cultural and recreational spaces that serve Redmond’s diverse population and its seniors.
The building layout strengthens site connections and creates a variety of indoor-outdoor relationships. A direct pedestrian route links the arrival plaza to the river trail, while the central lobby connects key gathering spaces — a senior living room courtyard, a dining terrace and a gymnasium plaza. The north wing houses the senior lounge and library, an art studio and a community room, while the two-story south wing features a gymnasium, a walking/jogging track, a cardio and weight training loft, and a group exercise studio.
The mass timber construction demonstrates Redmond’s sustainability goals, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere while significantly reducing the building’s carbon footprint. The innovative Mass Plywood Panel structure, sourced from local climate-resilient forests, complements the all-electric systems and a 156-kilowatt solar array. Targeting LEED Gold and on track for Platinum, the project earned the first-ever LEED Innovation Credit for climate-resilient wood.
