The renovation and expansion of Mount Vernon Recreation Center reimagines a long-standing neighborhood facility as a premier, multi-use destination for athletics, wellness, arts and community engagement. The updated facility reflects sustained public investment and a clear commitment to equitable access, lifelong fitness and high-quality recreation infrastructure.
The expanded center successfully balances high-performance athletics environments with inclusive, flexible spaces that support everyday use. Two NHL-sized ice rinks anchor the building. Comprehensive support spaces enhance both participant and spectator experience. An indoor track overlooking the added rink, paired with skylights throughout the building, introduces natural light and visual connectivity.
Aquatics programming is supported by an indoor pool with childrenβs play features and an aquatics climbing wall, accommodating family recreation, competitive swim teams and fitness-focused users through a mix of scheduled and drop-in opportunities. A two-story fitness center expands access to strength training, functional training, cardio and group exercise, while a prominently located climbing wall encourages physical, mental and social wellbeing in a fun, welcoming setting.
The facility is fully ADA accessible, ensuring athletes and patrons of all abilities can participate comfortably and independently. A drop-in childcare center further supports accessibility by enabling parents and caregivers to exercise and engage in programs.
