The Cal Bentz Natatorium — part of the larger Westside High School Life Complex — is a direct legacy of Omaha’s time as host of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials. After four consecutive trials, the community’s national presence and high visibility in competitive swimming had profound impact on nearby Westside Community Schools, one of the largest districts in Nebraska. Westside Community Schools embraced the opportunity to invest in a facility that would carry sports swimming momentum forward at the local level.
The Cal Bentz Natatorium, an eight-lane competition venue designed for both elite performance and everyday student use, anchors the aquatics environment. A Myrtha Pool — renowned worldwide for its cutting-edge stainless-steel technology, superior durability and fast water conditions — provides a championship-caliber environment for high school, club and regional events. A moveable bulkhead adds flexibility, allowing the pool to accommodate 25-yard and 25-meter courses with dedicated warm-up and cool-down lanes, as well as a water polo course. Generous deck space, integrated timing systems, and spectator-focused sightlines are complemented by a bright, open concourse and expansive glazing that create an engaging and accessible atmosphere.
Integrated graphics and recognition elements celebrate Westside’s storied swimming and diving program while honoring the coaches and athletes who shaped it. Supporting amenities, including modern locker rooms and adjacent program spaces, position the natatorium as a daily hub for health, training and education.
