Fair Grounds Aquatic Park

Strathroy, ON
Construction Cost: $4 million (Canadian)
Area / Square Feet: 28,200
Occupancy Date: April 2014

In 2010, Strathroy completed a renovation and expansion of the 50-year-old West Middlesex Memorial Arena. In 2014, a site master plan was completed to develop the once-residual condition of the leftover space on site to consolidate Strathroy’s recreational programs into one public complex and create a year-round community park.

The new Fair Grounds Recreation Complex includes a 15-acre park space with baseball diamonds, tennis courts, pavilion and picnic areas, a playground, the West Middlesex Memorial Arena and the Aquatic Park. The Aquatic Park features a six-lane, 25-meter competition pool with a shaded spectator area, a leisure pool with beach-style entry, a heated conversation pool, a tot pool, a lazy river, numerous water features including an 18-foot-tall water slide with a 170-foot-long run, and a changing pavilion with concessions.

The new park is a community center in every sense, functioning as both a health and wellness facility (by encouraging sport and exercise) and as a the social heart of the community (acting as a neighborhood hub).
