Mizzou Athletics Training Center Renovation and Expansion University of Missouri

Mizzou athletics has a long tradition of success, but its athletic training facility was sorely in need of upgrades to accommodate a top-tier collegiate athletic program. Design goals for the new athletic training facility included providing a place for student-athletes to train, develop and prosper, as well as creating an enticing environment for recruits.

The building serves as a home base for the football, baseball, softball and soccer teams. As such, the University of Missouri undertook a massive renovation and addition to the existing training facility, including the addition of more than 35,000 square feet. Key new components include a 15,000-square-foot weight room, a lobby and hall of fame/display area, and a football locker room and associated spaces. Expanded spaces include the academic resource area, the athletic training area, football coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms, and the dining hall and kitchen.

Specific architectural features in the new training facility — such as gently curved roof structures, clerestory eyebrows, a blending of architectural precast/Missouri campus brick, and large expanses of glazing with views to Memorial Stadium — unify the building with its neighbors. The front entry was enhanced and is now oriented to acknowledge the facility’s location on a prominent intersection.
