Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Penn State University

Medlar Field at Lubrano Park sits at the heart of Pennsylvania’s “Happy Valley” and serves as the home for both the State College Spikes MLB Player Development League team and Penn State University’s Division I baseball program. Opened in 2006, the ballpark was due for upgrades to comply with the latest MLB PDL facility standards and to remain competitive with facilities at other Big Ten Conference schools. 

Stadium renovations began in Fall 2023, including a newly installed field of Kentucky bluegrass with upgraded irrigation and drainage systems, padded walls in the outfield, LED lights and a new 2,739-square-foot video board. A spacious clubhouse welcomes the Nittany Lions with roomy wooden lockers, an expanded training room, a weight room and a team lounge. 

This uniquely designed ballpark, situated in the shadow of famed Beaver Stadium, features an unobstructed view of Mount Nittany beyond the outfield wall. The field geometry and outfield field wall heights were intentionally designed to match those at PNC Park in Pittsburgh (home of the MLB’s Pittsburgh Pirates) except for the right field wall. At PNC Park, the wall is 21 feet tall in honor of famed right fielder Roberto Clemente, but at Medlar Field, it is 18.55 feet tall to commemorate the year that Penn State was founded.
