The first municipal swimming pool in Madison, Wis., takes its name from two retired jewelers who contributed a lead donation of $2 million toward the facility?s design and construction. The pool?s accessible location provides public aquatic recreation to residents of all ages and backgrounds.
The $5.3 million facility contains a total of 16,500 square feet of recreational water with a zero-depth entry; an interactive water-play area; two water slides; an eight-lane, 25-meter competition pool, starting platforms and 1-meter diving boards; a sand area; large decks with shade structures and deck furniture; a concessions stand; and guest-changing areas. The pool can accomodate up to 1,000 swimmers.
Earth tones were chosen to maintain the area?s park-like atmosphere, while portable shade structures can be relocated as the sun moves. Numerous windows were installed in the buildings to make use of natural light, and different colors, textures and designs create an intriguing, non-institutional look.
