The Woodridge Park District conducted a survey that identified indoor athletic space as the number one priority for community residents. Among the needs they identified were indoor synthetic turf, a gymnasium and fitness space.

The community addressed all of these needs with the new Athletic Recreation Center. The ARC houses an indoor turf field, a hardwood court gymnasium with overhead running track, group exercise space, multipurpose programmable spaces, team gathering areas and administrative offices.

The 40-by-60-yard synthetic turf area features scoreboards, spectator seating and safety netting throughout. A natural cork infill material was used in place of traditional crumb rubber. The turf field can accommodate soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball practices, Ultimate Frisbee and other turf activity. The 5,700-square-foot fitness center offers exterior views, and features 50 pieces of cardio equipment, functional training equipment, and selectorized and free-weight training equipment. Gymnasium space is standard for a high school basketball court, and can be divided into volleyball and badminton courts.

The ARC’s location provides synergy with the park district’s outdoor aquatics and sports field, creating a joined recreational campus connected by trails. It has also created a community hub that encourages resident interaction, supporting Woodridge’s small-town, family-friendly environment.
