The Health & Wellbeing Building is a testament to Des Moines University’s dedication to holistic health and wellness. It provides a vital resource for students and employees, providing on-site access to a state-of-the-art fitness center and a comprehensive medical clinic, as well as student counseling services.
Designed to foster a culture of health, the light-filled building offers an array of amenities that encourage movement, selfcare and balance. A full-size gymnasium, an elevated running track and versatile group exercise spaces support a wide range of fitness activities, while an activity pool adds opportunities for aquatic exercise and rehabilitation.
By providing easy access to fitness and holistic health services, the Health & Wellbeing Building embodies a core tenet of exceptional healthcare: the wellbeing of those who deliver it. The design for the new campus takes direction from the site’s natural beauty and diverse physical characteristics, building on the concept “the edge of advancement” to imagine an innovative campus that reflects DMU’s values, respects the land and offers an inclusive, intuitive environment. With academic functions at its core, the design creates technology-rich, f lexible education spaces that support innovative teaching methods and expand research activity and clinical services. Interconnected paths and community trails promote fitness and wellbeing throughout the campus and beyond.
Sustainable practices such as specification of geothermal systems and local materials minimize the environmental footprint of the campus, which has achieved LEED Silver Certification and anticipates WELL Building Standard Gold Certification.
