The Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club is modeled after the classic, turnof- the-century American golf clubs. Its design utilizes elements and materials typical of East Coast architecture stone walls, lap siding, prominent trim detailing, dormers and porches — all with attention to proportion and scale. In its elegance, the clubhouse is comfortable and welcoming, and remains consistent with the traditional character of its surroundings.

The main entry is significantly elevated above the adjacent boulevard to create a stately presence, while the design approach in the rear of the clubhouse puts golfers and rear-veranda diners on equal levels.

Kinsale’s slate of amenities includes a full-service grille, a pro shop, full locker and spa facilities, a conference center, massage services, a child-care facility, fitness and aerobics rooms, a Pilates area, computer golf simulation systems, outdoor pools and spas, and tournament-level tennis courts.

The challenge was to create a facility encompassing more than 30,000 square feet while maintaining the comforts and feel of a home. This challenge was met in all aspects of the design — including materials selection, overall building massing and interior finishes — as evidenced by the club and golf course’s selection in 2004 by Golf Digest as one of America’s best.
