Renovation of The Pit involved reimagining the historic structure, built in 1966, while retaining all the aspects that have made it such an exciting basketball venue. Additions and enhancements include state-of-the-art concessions and catering facilities; numerous video and ribbon boards; 156 television monitors; new team lockers and lounges, strength training/conditioning areas, sports medicine and hydrotherapy areas; reorganized primary entrances on each corner of the arena; a team store and a main lobby with indoor ticket services; and multiple clubs and lounges.
The renewed facility offers fresh and well-lit areas to enhance the fan experience. Concourses feature polished concrete floors, new ceilings and walls specifically designed for new fan features and to spotlight the university’s athletic heritage. The luxurious suite/club level boasts school colors and modern materials and textures. Each of the 40 spacious and inviting suites offers a wet bar and refrigerator, lounge seating and a minimum of 20 spectator seats.
The exterior has been transformed through the use of glass, stainless steel and native New Mexico stone. The new roof slopes up to the mountains and down to the valley, promoting breathtaking views of Albuquerque’s surrounding land and sky.
