The state-of-the-art Provo Recreation Center features an aquatics area boasting six separate bodies of water: a traditional 25-by-25-meter competition pool, a leisure pool, two water slides, a 21-person hot-water spa and a separate program pool. The recreation area includes a 60-foot bouldering wall, an open fitness and weight area, three exercise studios, a three-lane walking and jogging track, four regulation-size basketball courts, six racquetball courts and a children’s indoor playground.

The facility also includes three classrooms, a senior wellness area, four party rooms, a library, a computer lab and a large multipurpose room with a kitchen and a stage. An outdoor skatepark, in the design of a “street scape,” is unlike anything seen before in Utah, combining landscaping, platforms, stairs, ramps and paths to create an engaging, unfenced public plaza.

The building includes an abundance of windows and skylights, allowing for natural daylight and spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Primary elements of ceramic tile were combined with mullionless glass and ipe wood accents throughout to create a moderately higher appearance than is customary for public recreation facilities in the area. A palette of brick, glass and metal wall panels were molded into an exterior form that exudes recreation, activity and fun.
