The Robert J. Mellow Center for Athletics and Wellness has quickly become the centerpiece building on the Marywood University campus. With the addition of the Mellow Center, university officials have been able to achieve their goals of expanding athletic team facilities, attracting higher-caliber athletes to campus, and opening up the facility to the outside community for summer camps, tournaments and other events.

Visitors approaching the two-level facility are greeted by a multitude of aluminum and dark bronze windows and a ?bumped out? entranceway, which serves the building as a beacon. The exterior of the Mellow Center is composed of red brick with limestone accents, matching the same contemporary architectural style found elsewhere on the campus. The entranceway leads to the spacious and dramatic lobby, which opens to the second floor. It includes a control desk area, trophy cases and porcelain tile flooring featuring the university?s color scheme of white and green with yellow and burgundy accents.

From the lobby, visitors can gaze into the large fitness center on the right, a stairwell with floor-to-ceiling windows on the left, the game room and concessions area beyond, or to the second-level overlook with its glass railing situated above. From here visitors can also enter the gymnasium, which features one main court and two cross-courts, with bleacher seating for 1,500 spectators (2,500 for special events).
