Upon entering the Provena St. Joseph Inwood Athletic Club, visitors first see the eight-lane, 25-yard pool. Highlighting both the pool and the fitness center were key design priorities; thus, the pool is also visible from the second floor of the fitness center and the three-lane jogging track. The main service desk is located opposite the entrance, and access control is maximized with a second desk area at the pool entry and a third at the top of the open staircase to the fitness floor.
The lobby fills a dramatic two-story space, with the fitness center and a juice bar overlooking the first floor. Gently curving walls and ceilings, exposed round columns, vibrant interior finishes and colorful furniture infuse energy and make a visit to the facility an enjoyable experience. The paint colors, wall treatments, flooring and complementary carpet patterns both distinguish and unify the two levels. High-performance glazing and strategically placed windows provide outside views and daylight to interior spaces and reduce energy usage, while the HVAC system incorporates carbon dioxide monitoring sensors that are integrated with the building?s automation system to ensure a healthy indoor environment.
Exterior building materials were selected to complement an adjacent ice arena, and the entire facility is built on the former site of an outdoor pool and bathhouse.
