Wilmington College needed a track that could support the future of its athletic program. The existing surface had deteriorated over years of intense use, and athletes were beginning to feel its limitations. The school wanted more than a replacement — it wanted a surface that matched its ambition, reflected its identity, and could stand up to daily training as well as championship-level meets.
That ambition led to a partnership between GeoSurfaces Midwest and Ecore Athletic. By choosing OSSTrax, Wilmington gained a surface engineered for consistency, safety, and long-term performance. The project combined expert installation with a material system known for reliability and precision.

The new track took shape quickly. Installed in late summer 2024, the OSSTrax system was customized to the school’s signature greens and laid across roughly 64,000 square feet. Its 12mm thickness provided the blend of durability and comfort needed for collegiate athletics, ensuring athletes had a dependable surface every time they stepped on the track.
The real validation came just months later. When Wilmington hosted the 2025 OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the conditions were far from ideal: intermittent rain, lightning delays, and constant foot traffic. Yet across two intense days of competition, athletes delivered standout performances — including 22 new stadium records. The surface held consistent through every event, showing the impact of its force-reduction, energy-return, and all-weather traction.
Behind that performance is OSSTrax’s multilayer rubber construction. A precision-molded system ensures consistency across every lane, while the balance of cushioning and responsiveness helps athletes stay efficient from start to finish. The waffle base layer adds stability, and the non-porous wear layer maintains grip and simplifies maintenance, even in challenging weather.
The track’s benefits extend well beyond competition days. Wilmington now has a facility that enhances training, strengthens recruiting, and supports the school’s continued role as a championship host. Athletes gain confidence in the surface beneath them, coaches gain a reliable tool to elevate performance, and architects gain real proof of what an OSST surface can deliver.

As more institutions re-evaluate their sports surfacing options, Wilmington’s project stands as a clear example of what choosing OSSTrax can achieve. A routine upgrade turned into measurable performance gains, long-term durability, and a renewed sense of pride in a key campus facility. And for architects, it reinforces a simple truth: when real choice exists, better outcomes follow.
