The recommissioned Montbello High School in Denver, CO, was rebuilt with flexibility, transparency, and community in mind. A community-driven effort transformed much of the campus with new construction, including academic wings and an outdoor plaza for community and school events. At the same time, cherished spaces like the auditorium and pool were renovated and modernized, preserving their role in campus life while supporting the school's renewed vision. The auditorium has long been an important part of Montbello High School, providing students with a venue to showcase their creativity while bringing families and the broader community together through performances and events.

The renovation was an opportunity to enhance a beloved space while modernizing it to fit the campus vision. The project team focused on creating an environment where students could perform confidently and audiences could enjoy a comfortable, accessible experience. A key priority was selecting seating that complemented the auditorium while providing audience comfort, accessibility, and the durability needed for a busy school performance schedule.

The 756-seat auditorium features Interkal's ODYSSEY Auditorium Chair, selected for its balance of comfort, durability, and architectural integration. The seating layout incorporates both traditional orchestra-level seating and tiered rear seating areas to offer improved sightlines while maintaining a cohesive visual design throughout the auditorium. Injection-molded polymer shells paired with die-cast aluminum stanchions provide a stable foundation, while thick contoured foam cushions and solid hardwood armrests create a premium seating experience for audiences. Grey upholstery and black seat pans complement the maple armrests while blending seamlessly with the auditorium’s overall design.

Accessibility was integrated throughout the design process, with seating locations incorporated throughout the auditorium. Dedicated wheelchair seating spaces and removable companion seating provide flexibility for patrons with mobility needs, while ADA-compliant aisle seats with lift-up armrests allow for easy entry and exit. Integrated LED aisle lights improve visibility as the house lights are dimmed, allowing patrons to safely navigate to their seats during performances. Together, these features help ensure the auditorium is welcoming and functional for every audience member.

For school facility staff, long-term maintenance is just as crucial as thoughtful design. The ODYSSEY’s durable construction and stain-resistant upholstery provide a reliable seating solution designed to withstand regular use while maintaining its appearance and comfort over time. By selecting seating designed for both audience comfort and long-term performance, Montbello High School created a space that will continue to serve generations of performers and audiences for years to come.

The auditorium at Montbello High School was a beloved part of the original school, showcasing countless performances over the years. The renovation honored that legacy by creating a space that celebrates students and the community. By combining thoughtful design, accessibility, and durable seating solutions, the auditorium provides a welcoming environment where audiences can focus on performances and students can share their talents.
