As a manufacturer of commercial swimming pool equipment, there aren’t many things we need to make pretty, but there is plenty to design and much we can offer to architects and aquatics designers.
Before all that, it’s important to understand our history. Paddock was born in 1922, so we have been around for over a century. We began as a pool builder in California, building pools for the Hollywood elite. In the 1940s, we developed a network of Paddock builders, and Paddock started designing pools for this builder network. Back then, those designs were illustrated on paper using pencils, drafting boards and parallel bars with squares. Even after Paddock shifted to strictly manufacturing equipment, we maintained a design team that worked as aquatics designers.
Today, Paddock Pool Equipment stands as a leading manufacturer of commercial swimming pool equipment. While we have moved away from pool design services, we understand the importance of collaboration and our position within the design process. We still draw and create, and we love to provide design assistance when needed, but we leave the heavy lifting to the experts. We employ a team of drafters because we must create manufacturing drawings to build what others design. We have a senior aquatics engineer and team because knowing the aquatics design
process and being able to communicate with architects and designers in the same language is crucial.

So where do we fit in and how can Paddock help? Our role in the design process begins by having early conversations with architects and aquatics engineers, ensuring they understand how our products can work within the scope of their projects. These discussions cover important considerations: the advantages of
stainless steel gutters over concrete, the benefits of regenerative media filtration versus other options and whether air quality should be a primary concern. Once a direction has been established, we work together to develop the best design to meet
project needs. We can provide product files in various formats, from standard CAD to 3-D models, lay out pool plans with an Evacuator gutter system, or design the most efficient pump room utilizing the Paddock Regenerator. In some cases, we have even invented custom gutters to address specific needs or space constraints. At Paddock, we pride ourselves on making standard products that feel customized for every job.
Internally, we continue to design and enhance the aesthetic appeal of our products where possible. We recently released a new gutter with a HDPE “tile” face. Last year, we introduced the Paddock Premiere line of upgraded gutter grating. The Flow, Wave and Surge patterns offer designers creative alternatives to standard grating and come in four colors — our standard White or Dolphin Gray, or upgraded Slate Gray or Tuscan finishes.
